Police arrested a knife and axe wielding man who allegedly broke windows at a San Jose shopping center early Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred at 1:12 a.m. at a shopping center on the 4600 block of Meridian Avenue.
According to authorities, a "despondent" male armed with a knife and axe was originally unresponsive to arriving officers and did not drop his weapons. He was seen allegedly breaking windows of both businesses and vehicles.
Officers used crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to negotiate with the subject, who eventually surrendered, discarded his weapons and was taken into custody.
The man is receiving a mental health evaluation and will be booked for vandalism, officials said.
No other information was immediately available.
