SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Manresa, one of the Bay Area's most critically acclaimed restaurants, has announced it’s shutting its doors at the end of the year.

When famed chef and restaurateur David Kinch announced that he planned to sell the Los Gatos restaurant a few months back, there was widespread hope that the 3-Michelin-starred fine dining establishment might be able to live on under new management.

But that just doesn't seem to be on the menu. The restaurant announced in a press release that it is closing down, with its final day coming on December 31st.

For Los Gatos locals, this comes as bitter news.

"The experience is phenomenal," said Charlotte Arde, who's eaten there about half a dozen times. "You go in and have seven courses and they're all really creative."

"Stuff you won't see at other restaurants," she said. "I think you just really have to appreciate food and I'm surprised Los Gatos doesn't have the market for that anymore, it's kind of sad."

Manresa first opened in 2002 and came to be known for its tasting menu that incorporates locally grown ingredients. Since then it's won multiple awards and survived two fires.

Reservations for its final month open up next Monday.
