A 70-year-old woman is suspected of running a red light before striking and killing a San Francisco elementary school teacher with her car on Wednesday.

The San Francisco Police Department told KCBS Radio in a statement that officers arrested Susan Vennarucci for vehicular manslaughter and running a red light on Wednesday morning. Police investigators alleged Vennarucci crossed the Union and Franklin streets intersection during a red light, hitting 30-year-old Andrew Zieman soon after.

Zieman worked as a paraeducator at Sherman Elementary School, located at the intersection where he was killed.

Police said "multiple vehicles had been involved in the collision," and officers found Zieman near one of the vehicles. Officers, then medics, provided aid, but Zieman was pronounced dead at the scene. Zieman is the 12th pedestrian killed in the city this year, according to Walk San Francisco.

Vennarucci was not listed in the San Francisco Sheriff's Office jail log as of Friday afternoon, nor did she appear in San Francisco Superior Court records available online. The sheriff's office didn’t respond to a request for comment prior to publication.

Police said everyone involved in the collision cooperated with investigators on Wednesday. The department’s traffic investigators are still looking into the case, and police said people with information can call or text its tip lines.
