Fleet Week is back!
San Francisco Fleet Week 2021 is off and running through Sunday.

The week-long event highlights the contributions of the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and showcases planes and ships from the military across the crisp San Francisco skyline.
A Bay Area tradition – and the 40th anniversary of Fleet Week in San Francisco – the event will have weekend shows including the Blue Angels flying over Alcatraz Island and the Golden Gate Bridge. "San Francisco is the most fun city for a sailor to arrive and spend a week," KCBS Radio's Jim Taylor said on Monday's "Bay Current."
Taylor was born and raised in the Presidio District.
"The parties used to be raucous out in the streets," he added.

Fleet Week started in 1981 when then-Mayor Dianne Feinstein wanted to lead the nation in celebrating America's sea services.
The event has taken place every Oct. at Marina Green and coincides with the city's Italian Heritage Weekend. The parade of ships, planes and community events has become a prominent aspect of San Francisco's culture.
