San Jose Police arrested a man Wednesday afternoon accused of live streaming threats to "shoot up" a mall on Snapchat.
He was identified Thursday morning as Hunter Tital, 21, a resident of Seaside. Tital was taken into custody when he was located at Westfield Valley Fair on Stevens Creek Blvd. in San Jose.
Police said Tital had an assault rifle in his possession at the time of arrest.
"Coordinating with mall security, officers formulated a tactical plan ensuring public safety and keeping the safety of people in the mall in mind," said San Jose Police Spokesman Steve Aponte. "(They) went through the mall, locating the suspect, ultimately taking the suspect into custody without incident."
He apparently live streamed the shooting threat while inside the mall.
The mall never closed during the incident, according to Aponte.
Police said it took 45 minutes between the initial report at 4 p.m., which came to them from the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office, and the arrest.
Tital was booked for numerous felony charges, including possession of an assault rifle and criminal threats. Police are investigating the motive for the threat.
There's no further threat to the public at this time.
