All registered voters in Santa Clara County have been sent a ballot in the mail and several vote centers have opened up Saturday.
A remote accessible vote by mail option is also available for those who need to use assistive technology at home to mark their ballot. Matt Morales, assistant of Santa Clara County registrar of voters said it's not internet voting because none of the data gets stored online.
"You still have to print out your ballot, you still have to send it back to us and we process it and count it like it was a regular vote by mail ballot but it is a secure, safe and accessible way for voters who can't get down to the voting location," Morales explained.
Based on historical turnout and similar gubernatorial primary elections compared to presidential election turnout is expected to be 35 to 45%.
"Obviously we would love to see that higher and we encourage everybody who can vote to vote," he said.
