A 62-year-old ATM service technician is in custody after authorities say he embezzled $192,000 from several Bay Area credit union machines over the course of three days earlier this month.

Vy Thac Nguyen is alleged to have stolen $145,000 from San Mateo Credit Union’s ATM machines in Redwood City and $47,000 from one of the credit union’s ATMs in San Mateo. The crimes took place between May 16-18, Redwood City Police said in a press release issued on Monday.

Nguyen allegedly used a fictitious work order to access and open the machines.

He was arrested at his San Jose home, where officers confiscated evidence implicating Nguyen in the crimes, police said. He’s been booked at the San Mateo County Jail on charges of embezzlement and commercial burglary.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call Redwood City Police at 650-780-7619.
