An iconic viewpoint in San Francisco will stay closed to cars indefinitely.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that city transportation officials voted this week to approve a plan that keeps the Burnett Avenue gate to Twin Peaks Boulevard closed to cars.
The stretch of road crosses across the north end of Twin Peaks and provides a sweeping panoramic view of much of the city.

Twin Peaks Boulevard and the two roads leading up to it have been closed to cars ever since shelter-in-place orders went into effect nearly a year ago. The lack of cars made it an even more popular destination for pedestrians, bicyclists and skateboarders looked to get outdoors and exercise.
But as restrictions have eased, the city has gone back and forth on how to balance the needs of pedestrians while restoring access to one of the city’s most famous viewpoints.
Under the new plan, the Portola Dr. entrance to the south will be open to drivers giving private cars, tour buses and shuttles access to the western side of the figure eight road and Christmas Tree Road parking lot and viewing area.
The Burnett Ave. gate to the north and the eastern portion of the road will be reserved for walkers and bicyclists, perhaps permanently.
