Crews pull South Bay construction worker to safety after he falls into manhole

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – A construction worker had to be rescued on Thursday afternoon after he fell into a manhole in Morgan Hill.

The incident happened at about 2:30 p.m. at Ridgeview Court and Jackson Oaks Drive. The man was pulled to safety shortly before 4:40 p.m.

CAL FIRE Spokesperson Josh Shiffrin said he was being taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for unknown injuries. "They definitely used ropes," he explained. "It's a very technical rescue...very methodical."

A first responder had to be lowered down to the victim, Shiffrin added.

It's believed the construction worker was attending to roads in the area.

The man's identity wasn't immediately available.
