Radiers' Carl Nassib becomes first active NFL player to come out as gay

Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Carl Nassib announced that he's gay on Monday, setting him up to become the first openly gay player to compete in a regular season game.

"I'm really not doing this for attention," the 28-year-old defensive end said in an Instagram video. "I just think that representation and visibility are so important. I actually just hope that one day videos like this and the whole coming out process are just not necessary."

"I have agonized over this moment for the last 15 years," he wrote in the post.

In addition to the groundbreaking announcement, Nassib said he's making a donation of $100,000 to The Trevor Project, which aims to prevent suicides among LGBTQ youth.

Nassib was a third-round pick by the Cleveland Browns out of Penn State in the 2016 NFL Draft. He's entering his second season with the Las Vegas Raiders and has 20 1/2 career sacks.
