PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - COVID-19 cases in Allegheny County are quickly approaching 6,000 as the number of new infections is once again over 200 on Friday, hospitalizations are now over 500.
The Allegheny County Health Department is reporting 240 new coronavirus cases out of 2,118 tests administered between June 29 and July 16.
The cases range in age from 1 month to 97 years old. The median age is 34. The number of total cases in the county is now at 5,990.
The positivity rate of infection is now about 11 percent.
17 new hospitalizations are being reported, the largest one-day increase to date, bring that total number to 507 past or present.
On, Friday, Allegheny County imposed new restrictions that are more in line with the restrictions imposed by the state on Wednesday.
The county reminds everyone to continue to wear a mask in public, frequently wash their hands and maintain social distancing.
