PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - In addition to their daily COVID-19 update, the Allegheny County Health Department has reported new findings related to the uptick of coronavirus cases in the county in the past week.
The 61 cases that were reported on Friday ended a seven-day span with 244 new cases.
Those cases were found predominantly in younger people.
While cases were reported in the age range of four to 97, the median age from the past week was 31.
66% of the cases were found between the ages of 19 and 49.
During investigations of the cases, the ACHD found that people who tested positive had been traveling to other parts of the country: Tampa Bay, Naples, Miami, Nashville, Houston, and Myrtle Beach.
Some of the people that were questioned also said that they had recently been to bars and restaurants across the county; some of those who tested positive were employees of the restaurants and bars.
15 different bars and restaurants were named, and five of them were mentioned more than once.
Other smaller case numbers were found from people who had been going to church, attending family events or children's sports games, and protests.
The Allegheny County Health Department has not detected any clusters and does not yet know when and where the cases were contracted or when the person would have been exposed.
Contact tracing is being performed but it's unknown if the cases came from restaurants or bars or somewhere else in the country and brought back.
