WASHINGTON (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The mother of the late Antwon Rose, who was fatally shot by an East Pittsburgh Police officer nearly two year ago says did not meet with President Trump, after he said he met with families that have been affected by police brutality.
The president referenced Rose in remarks he made on Tuesday afternoon at the White House.
“For example, many believe that proper training might have prevented the tragic deaths of Antwon Rose and Botham Jean,” Trump said.
Rose’s mother Michelle Kenney confirmed in a Facebook post that she is in Washington D.C. but did not meet with Trump after Trump indicated that he meet with Rose’s family.
“I am not in the White House, I chose not to meet their president! I came to Washington to meet and speak with Senators that could have an impact on this movement! I will not have a conversation with anyone who disrespects us at individuals!!!! I will not have a conversation with someone that clearly will never have any empathy!!! I won’t be part of any media ploys this is not a photo opt for me: It’s my life and the lives of my daughter, grand daughters, my family and our friends, I cant (sic) stand the lies,” said Kenney.
Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday on police reform and delivered remarks following the death of George Floyd, who died while in police custody.
The president said that his administration is looking at new, non-lethal technology that could be used to detain suspects. He also stated that choke holds will be banned unless an officer's life is in danger.
Trump said he is “committed” to working with Congress and looking at additional measures that can be taken.
Local Rep. Guy Reschenthaler was also thanked for his work during Trump's remarks.
