PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Bar and restaurant owners and their customers aren't happy, but Allegheny County health officials say COVID-19 restrictions are working.

For the first time since the July surge, the county has now gone more than a week with new cases averaging fewer than 100.

While the numbers are down, bars and restaurants and large parties are the most common places patients report visiting.

"Reports of attendance of parties have dropped but are now on par with bars and restaurants as the number one place new cases report going to," said Bogen.

In about half the new cases, people have no idea where they contracted the virus.

But Bogen says 53 percent know they had close contact with another case.

Fewer cases report playing sports but it is increasing.

And Bogen adds, "We are at a critical point in this pandemic, our school season is about to happen," said Dr. Bogen

As school nears fewer people are traveling. Contact tracing shows South Carolina, Ohio and North Carolina are the most common destinations coronavirus patients have visited.
