BEAVER, Pa (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) The Brighton Rehabilitation and Wellness Center is Beaver County, a hot spot for the coronavirus, has announced they will stop testing and are assuming all 300 or so staff members and 450 residents "may be positive."
In a release, the rehab center points to data that shows people are able to transmit COVID-19 without showing any symptoms and people may get never get sick while carrying the virus.
"Likewise, it seems that negative test results do not mean a person will not develop symptoms,"
Brighton says they have consulted with the PA Department of Health and will continue to use isolation and social distancing practices and will treat anyone who shows symptoms.
"Thinking about the virus in this way allows us to be more protective of asymptomatic staff and residents," a release said.
At least 42 people have tested positive at the facility and at least five have died.
Brighton says they will continue to follow CDC and Department of Health guidelines and all "direct care staff" will be wearing N95 protective masks along with other protective equipment.
Residents are also wearing masks.
Our staff of big-hearted professionals continue to care for the residents to the very best of our abilities, and to help them stay strong and in touch with their families. We mourn for those we have lost, and the estimated tens of thousands who have passed around the world. Together with our community, loved ones, and friends, we anticipate and pray for a day when vaccines are available and the pandemic subsides.
Brighton is the first nursing home in the commonwealth to announce they will not continue with testing.
