Calls For Penn State Student To Be Expelled Over Nazi Logo

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) -There are calls for A Penn State student to be expelled after a photo surfaced online showing her with a Nazi swastika drawn on her shoulder.

The calls come from the Pittsburgh chapter on the Council on American-Islamic Relations and other groups.

The group says the photo was posted on Monday and shows one identified student and two unidentified friends looking over their shoulders and smiling with hand-drawn Nazi Swastikas on two of their shoulders.

Penn State said in a tweet, “The reported anti-Semitic post is deeply disturbing and sickening. The (university) is contacting the individual alleged to be involved. The Penn State community can visit http://equity.psu.edu for a wide range of resources.”

A change.org petition asking for the student’s removal has over 83,500 signatures as of Friday afternoon.

In a statement, CAIR-Pittsburgh's Executive Director Christine Mohamed said:

“The Nazi swastika is a symbol of terror and oppression. It is a symbol of hate, fear, anti-Semitism, and white supremacy. We as a community, do not accept that kind of hatred. We urge Penn State University to put the safety of its students first by showing the community that these twisted views are not a reflection of the values they accept. Our state’s Muslim community will continue to stand against hatred and bigotry.”
