PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A Carnegie Mellon Student has tested positive for COVID-19.
The university says in a release the student is being monitored by health officials and is in self-isolation at an off campus facility.
University officials say they are working with the Allegheny County Health Department and University Health Services to ensure the health and safety of the campus.
The student came back from Pittsburgh after being on Spring Break and was on campus Monday, March 16 to be tested.
Those who have been in close contact with the student have been notified and will all be in self-isolation for 14 days.
Due to privacy laws, no other information on the student is available.
"This case of coronavirus in our campus community is a sobering reality, and it is a reminder that every group is potentially vulnerable to the spread of the virus. At the same time, I also want to reassure you that we have been taking every precaution and we continue to take this situation extremely seriously," said Farnam Jahanian, President, Henry L. Hillman Chair.
