PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Ben Carson joined Wendy Bell on KDKA Radio Tuesday as the nation deals with the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are question marks in almost all facets of society and it’s a scary time for those afraid of losing their home.

Dr. Carson says “we are very concerned” and that is why the Trump Administration started a moratorium on foreclosures and evictions for mortgages for a single family dwelling, that includes reserve mortgages.

Carson says they have been in contact with all 3,300 Public Housing Authorities across the countries and have asked them to extend forbearance and “to look for other ways of dealing with financial shortfalls” for anybody impacted financially by the coronavirus.

The coronavirus bailout will help the American citizens, small businesses and big businesses.

Carson says it’s important that big businesses are also included.

“The big businesses employ a lot of people,” said Carson.

For those that claim the government isn’t doing enough, Carson says there are over 100 different trials currently ongoing of vaccines or treatments, “some of which are incredibly promising.”

Carson says the FDA has sped up the process while also keeping safety in mind and that they expect results from preliminary testing “in the next week or two.”

Carson believes that President Trump, “has done a lot of very courageous things,” pointing to the president’s travel bans to China and parts of Europe.

Other things Carson points to, are the president “being able to weigh and measure benefits versus risks,” meaning if a study is doing well, to try it and not let it go through 16 studies before it is used on patients.
