PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The CDC and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration have issued a warning over a salmonella outbreak in papayas imported from Mexico and sold in Pennsylvania, as well as Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.
The CDC is advising that consumers in the listed states do not eat any whole, fresh papayas from Mexico, and to throw them away even if some of the papayas were eaten and no one got sick.
If you are not sure where the papayas are from Mexico, you can ask the place of purchase.
Also, make sure to sanitize the location were you kept the papayas, including countertops and refrigerators.
For more information on how to properly clean your kitchen, as well as more information on the outbreak, visit the CDC website by clicking here.
