PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The city of Pittsburgh cancelled the annual St. Patrick's Day parade scheduled this Saturday downtown.
City officials said Wednesday afternoon that the decision is a matter of safety and they are following the CDC's recommendation of keeping large crowds to a minimum
The city is also encouraging bars to lower occupancy this Saturday.
Pittsburgh Public Safety director Wendell Hissrich says letters are going out to bars city-wide.
"Strongly urging the clubs, restaurants and bars to consider lowering their occupancy rates," said Hissrich.
The move is also aimed to reduce close contact.
Hissrich adds the city's bar task force will be out on Saturday evening and if the bar is even one person over, it will be ordered to close.
They city is also looking at a way to legally order bars and other places to lower their occupancy rates.
