PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The number of daily COVID-19 cases in Allegheny County continue to decline, but is seeing a slight jump in hospitalizations and deaths.
The Allegheny County Health Department is reporting 96 new cases out of 1,617 test results on Wednesday morning.
The newest cases range in age from 1 to 92 years old with the median age being 37.
The positive results from tests span from July 7 through July 21.
On KDKA Radio Wednesday, Allegheny County Rich Fitzgerald health director Dr. Debra Bogen's mitigation efforts appear to be working.
"It appears that the strategy that Dr. Bogen and her team, when almost three weeks ago they started to shut things down is starting to take hold," said Fitzgerald.
He adds the last seven to eight days show a pattern of stabilization and reduction and he believes the trend will continue.
16 new hospitalizations are being reported bringing the total number hospitalized past or present to 536.
An additional eight deaths are being reported bringing that total 217.
The ages of the latest deaths range in age from 78 to 96 with 81 being the median age.
The dates of the deaths range from July 8 through July 19. Of the total deaths 205 are confirmed and 12 are probable.

00-04 – 81 (1%)05-12 – 107 (2%)13-18 – 234 (3%)19-24 – 1,126 (17%)25-49 – 2,756 (41%)50-64 – 1,248 (19%)65 + -- 1,118 (17%)The gender of those with COVID-19 are listed below:Female – 3,567 (54%)Male – 3,103 (46%)

Officials continue to encourage people to practice safety measures including wearing a mask, social distancing and frequently washing hands.
