PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Delta Foundation’s annual Pittsburgh Pride festival will welcome artists Toni Braxton and Walk the moon, it will also be held at a brand new location June 7, 8 and 9.

Officials announced Tuesday that after the city brought concerns to the Delta Foundation about safety, security, traffic, bus detours and a growing crowd at the Boulevard of the Allies and Grant Street location, Pittsburgh Pride 2019 will move to the Andy Warhol Bridge and Ft. Duquesne Blvd.

“We are excited to be the first Pride in the world to be held on a bridge and believe that Andy Warhol, Pittsburgh’s gay icon, would be thrilled that it will take place on his namesake bridge.  We also believe that building bridges and bringing communities together is what is going to change the conversation about our LGBTQ community,” said foundation president Gary Van Horn.

The theme for this year’s festival is “We Are One” and was voted on by the community.

A statement said, “Pittsburgh Pride is the largest event that celebrates the diversity of the Pittsburgh region specifically for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community.“

The festival will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the violent Stonewall uprising that took play in 1969 in New York City. The Stonewall riots are considered the most important moment in the fight for equal rights for the LGBT community.

Walk the Moon will play a Friday concert and Toni Braxton will perform on Saturday. The Equality March steps off from Boulevard of the Allies and Grant Street at 12:30 Sunday the 9th.

More information can be found on Pittsburgh Pride’s website.
