PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission is hosting events to help low-income households maintain utility services this winter.

The PUC’s “Be Utility Wise” program brings together human service agencies and utility companies to discuss ways to help at-risk households.

The PUC’s Nils Hagen-Frederiksen says there are eight events across the state.

“This is specific opportunity, as we start the fall, to sit down with human service workers all across the state to talk to them about the ins and outs of utility assistance programs, details, new options that are available in communities.”

Hagen-Frederickson adds it’s not just about connecting more utility customers with human service agencies.

“It’s helping them understand the services that are available that might winterize their house or let them purchase a more efficient heating system so their bills are not just lower this winter, but lower as we move forward.”

The Pittsburgh Be Utility Wise event is October 2nd at the Hilton Garden Inn at Southpointe.
