PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - After 35 days of coping with the coronavirus, Florida resident Keith Johnson can finally walk on his own.
It all started in late March when Johnson went for an x-ray at an Urgent Care. The walk-in medical clinic immediately sent him to the emergency room, where he was admitted right away and given a test for the coronavirus.
A few days later, he was told "your covid positive, your respiratory condition is deteriorating, and we need to put you on a vent," Johnson said, during an interview with the KDKA Radio Morning Show on Thursday.
He was under sedation for nine days and experienced "the most horrendous hallucinations."
After 11 days on a ventilator, he spent one day in the ICU. He was then taken to a "negative pressure room," where he received "amazing care for about a week and a half," Johnson adds.
He spent a total of 26 days in the hospital.
"I'm a typical 53-year-old married guy; a little fat, a little out of shape," Johnson explains. "But I can tell you this has been the most debilitating thing I've ever experienced."
