PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - This story is a little nuts.

On Monday afternoon, Chris Persic posted on Facebook  a photo of his wife Holly’s car that showed over 200 walnuts in grass in the engine, courtesy of some squirrels.

Persic says Holly was at the Northland Library in McCandless when she called him saying the car smelled “like it was burning and was making a weird sound.”

She popped the hood and that’s when she saw all the nuts.

Persic says it took them an hour to clean it out.

Persic says the car was only inspected a month ago and the last time she drove the car to work Friday without incident.

"Walnuts have only been falling for the last month or so. It was pretty quick! The squirrels are out to get us... probably mad that we cut down a few of their trees this summer."

So if you park outside Persic has some advice for you:

“Do yourself a favor and check under the hood every once in a while. My truck may have had a squirrel chew through/pull out a fuel injector hose, and Holly’s looked like they were storing up for the next 3 winters. Was absolutely nuts...no pun intended.”
