PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – Freezing drizzle caused a headache for many Pittsburghers Wednesday morning leaving roads, cars and walkways covered with a thin layer of ice.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until noon.

Freezing drizzle can leave a light glaze of ice on elevated surfaces.

Slippery road conditions are possible and could impact the morning commute.

Multiple cars slide off the road on the Beaver Valley Expressway earlier Wednesday along with slick conditions on I-79 near Warrendale and Mt. Nebo.

KDKA Radio’s Kathy Berggren reports that slick conditions have been reported on the residential hills on Mt. Washington.

Temperatures are expected to rises a few degrees above freezing Wednesday afternoon with the freezing drizzle tapering off.

Unfortunately, today is only the first of three systems expected to come through the area over the next four days.

People have been asking how does freezing drizzle happen? here is the reason depends what temperature the moisture extends too. As we stated earlier, travel is slick so allow extra time. pic.twitter.com/jK0o1V4SLF
