PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Buying a craft beer at brewery in Pennsylvania could cost you a little more starting Tuesday.
This affects craft breweries who had not been charging sales tax on their own product.
But the revenue department wanted something so the compromise is they will pay 25 percent of their local sales tax on retail sales, in Allegheny County that’s 1.75 percent.
Ted Zeller represents the Brewers of Pennsylvania and he calls it a use tax.
“In essence they brewery is using the beer to make the sale to the consumer and that’s the concept,” said Zeller.
Some Brewers are expect to pass it along, others will swallow it.
