PITTSBURGH, PA (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Giant Eagle employees have tested positive for the coronavirus in five locations.
Giant Eagle confirmed the team member cases on Friday and were detected at the Altoona, Wexford, North Huntingdon, New Kensington locations in Pennsylvania and the Brunswick Center Road store in Ohio.
All locations have been cleaned and sanitized after the case confirmations.
To curtail the spread of the virus in its locations and the community at large, Giant Eagle is constructing plexiglass barriers at the checkout counters and placing social distancing floor guides to help customers maintain a safe radius around each other.
The grocery store chain is also restricting hours of operation.
Giant Eagle and Market District locations will close at 9 p.m. each evening.
Stores will still open at 7 a.m., but the opening hours of Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays will start at 6 a.m. and are reserved for shoppers over the age of 60, who are differently abled or who are immune-compromised.
Giant Eagle is updating its site with a COVID-19 response center to provide updates and policy changes as the pandemic continues.
