WARREN, OH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Communities across Ohio are wearing blue this Friday; one day after the General Motors plant in Lordstown was idled.
The “True Blue Friday” initiative is pioneered by "Drive It Home," the group is pushing for GM to bring another product to the plant to keep it open.
William Franklin, mayor of nearby Warren, Ohio, tells KDKA Radio's Lynne Hayes-Freeland his town is one of many wearing blue.
“We wanted to send a message not only to General Motors in Detroit but also to all the families and workers and suppliers who are affected by this shutdown,” said Franklin. “We have each other’s back and one thing about our community, our region is we’re pretty resilient, we’ve been through a lot but we know how to take a punch and get back up so we’re not giving up our fight.”
The final Chevy Cruze rolled off the Lordstown line yesterday
About 1,700 hourly employees were impacted by Thursday's closure, the first of five planned in North America by next year.
