PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Kennywood and Sandcastle are (almost) open!

Kennywood is opening on Friday, July 10 to season passholders and single-day ticket holder who already planned and scheduled a visit for that day.

Passholders and those that previously scheduled visits on July 11 and 12 will be able to also attend those days.

The general public will be able to attend beginning on Monday, July 13.

Kennywood posted the following statement on their website: "We believe strongly in the plan developed by our teams at Kennywood and Sandcastle to best protect the health and safety of all those visiting and working at our parks. We look forward to providing the clean, safe and fun experience we have been proud to offer since 1898."

The park strongly encourages visitors to register online in advance for the day they wish to attend.

While walkup entry is available, those visitors are not guaranteed entry if the park is at its predetermined capacity for that day.

Temperature checks will be taken for each guest and anyone with a fever of 100.4 or higher will not be allowed entry, along with anyone displaying symptoms of COVID-19.

Face coverings or masks are required for all people entering the park with the exception of anyone three or younger. Guests are expected to wear masks on all rides with the exception of water rides. They can also be removed while eating.

Additional hand sanitizing stations will be added as well.

Kennywood Spokesperson Nick Paradise tells KDKA Radio, they will operate at about 15 percent on Friday then "scaling up to 25 percent as we get a grasp on how operating is going and whether that level is good or needs adjusted."

Passholders and the general public can begin visiting Sandcastle on July 10.

Visitors to Sandcastle must RSVP or pre-book their visit online.

Masks must be worn at Sandcastle with the exception of being in the water, on a water ride, or in line for a water ride.

Kennywood and Sandcastle has previously planned on opening in May and then in early July , but that date was postponed after a significant rise in coronavirus cases in the area.

Last month, Kennywood announced fall events like Phantom Fright Nights, Happy Hauntings and Fall Fantasy have been canceled for 2020.

Kennywood will operate in October with some of its normal summer events "with a seasonal twist." The Pittsburgh Pierogi Festival and Holiday Lights are still scheduled to go on as planned.

Idlewild Park opened to friends and family as well as Passholders earlier this week and opens to the general public on Saturday, July 11.
