PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A Pittsburgh landlord is suing the City and two of its officers for violating her constitutional rights during a December 2017 arrest.
Officers arrived at one of Darian Balcom's buildings after she removed two cats from a neighboring building, that she says she had permission to enter.
Attorney Margaret Coleman tells KDKA Radio's Lynne Hayes-Freeland her client objected when Officer Gabe Figueroa called her "sweetheart:"
"She had a fundamental constitutional right to object to that and where really went wrong is when he injected his own political beliefs into the performance of his duties," said Coleman.
She says Figueora went on to discuss opinions on President Trump, eventually arresting Balcom on charges that were later dropped.
Another officer, identified only as John Doe, witnessed the interaction.
The city does not comment on litigation.
