PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - State House Representative Harry Readshaw, who has been serving PA's 36th Legislative District in Allegheny County, announced his retirement Tuesday.
The Democrat is the longest serving Congressman in the district that represents Baldwin, Brentwood, Mount Oliver and Parts of Pittsburgh.
Readshaw has served in the 36th District since 1995.
He will officially retire at the end of the 2019-20 legislative session.
Readshaw, serves as Democratic chairman of the House Professional Licensure Committee, which considers legislation and regulations dealing with 29 boards and commissions that fall under the Pennsylvania Department of State.
"For 13 terms – that translates into 25 years – I have been blessed and humbled by being elected Pennsylvania state representative of the 36th Legislative District," Readshaw said. "The 36th District has been reapportioned twice during my tenure and has geographically changed. Yet, my constituents have honored me with their continual support, and I am very grateful.
"Over the years, I have made so many friends and have enjoyed representing the 36th District to the best of my ability," Readshaw said. "May you all be blessed as we continue the journey in the year 2020 and show concern for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, including Allegheny County, Pittsburgh, and the municipalities of Brentwood, Baldwin, and Mt. Oliver, which compose the 36th District."
Readshaw, a livelong Pittsburgh resident went to Pittsburgh Public Schools and attended Duquesne University.
After graduating, He attended the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and became a funeral director in 1965.
He served in the Marines from 1965 to 1971
Readshaw has been married to his wife Carol since 1966. They have three children and 6 grandchildren.
