PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Controversy after about ten vehicles were towed from Walnut Street in Shadyside late Saturday night in preparation for the Pittsburgh Marathon.
Posted signs reportedly said towing would start after 11 pm.
But Mayor Bill Peduto and bar and restaurant owners understood towing started at Midnight as in past year.
Peduto, who was in Cappy's Bar, heard about the towing and tried to intervene.
“No I didn’t berate the officer and I did yell at one of the tow truck drivers who tried to pass me and came as close as he possibly could to hitting me.”
After talking to the police chief, “We agreed that the vehicles that were towed before midnight would have their fines taken off, they were still going to have to pay for the tow.”
He wasn't towed but heard about it from people in the street.
“Was I upset? Yeah and I’m sure the people that that their cars towed were upset too,” said Peduto
He calls it a mix-up in communication. The mayor says posted signs did warn of towing after 11 p.m.
