PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Crews are working to install the new Shaler Street Bridge Monday afternoon.
The bridge is in two parts and was built on an adjacent area next to Route 19.
The bridge that is over Route 19/51 Saw Mill Run Boulevard is an accelerated bridge project that PennDOT says is a "safe, cost-effective way to reduce the time it takes to traditional bridge-replacement techniques.
The pieces are put into place using a self-propelled modular transporter.
Each piece weighs 260 tons.
Saw Mill Run between the Parkway West and West End Circle is schedule to reopen at 6 a.m. on Wednesday.
