PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) -- Three Pittsburgh gun-control ordinances that were passed after the Tree of Life synagogue shooting last year were struck down by an Allegheny County judge on Tuesday.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Allegheny County Common Pleas Senior Judge Joseph M. James found that state law prohibit local gun laws. The city ordinances, he said, were "void and unenforceable."

The Associated Press reported that the legislation placed "restrictions on military-style assault weapons," as well as banned "armor-piercing ammunition and high-capacity magazines," and would allow guns to be taken away from individuals that were a danger to themselves or others.

Director of Communications for the Office of Mayor Peduto issued the following statement in response to the ruling: "The city and its outside legal council have always expected this would be a long legal fight, and will continue to fight for the right to take common sense steps to prevent future violence. We will appeal."
