The Elizabeth Bridge closed on Thursday night due to a failed temporary structural support bracket that was being utilized for hanger cable replacements.
Crews worked around the clock to design and install a secondary hanger system in the location of the issue.
"I want to thank motorists for their patience during the bridge closure," said Cheryl Moon-Sirianni, District Executive for Engineering District 11. "As the public's wellbeing is our highest priority, the Department believed the best course of action was to close the bridge until we were completely confident that traffic could safely use the structure."There will need to be modifications made to the temporary support system before cable replacement can resume.
