Small Businesses And The New Paycheck Protection Program: What You Need To Know

Small Business Owners

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) -- With 30.2 million small businesses in the United States, it's Jovita Carranza's job as administrator of the Small Business Association to help them navigate the Covid-19 uncertainty.

Jovita joined Wendy Bell on Friday to talk about the new Paycheck Protection Program stimulus just signed by the President and has some helpful information about what small businesses who missed out on the first stimulus can do to secure financial help this time.

“Most importantly, they should check with their local banks first to see if they are on hold or are they going to require that they reapply,” Carranza tells Wendy. “It’s really a banking and business, local lender relationship and communication. When the banks submit their loans, we assign a loan number, and we guarantee the amounts and then it’s between the bank and the small business.”

Jovita also shared that the SBA is ready to help small businesses get back to business as soon as possible:

“SBA is not only about a loan portfolio. We have resources in every state that’s going to be with them when they’re ready to open up their doors and provide technical assistance so we can assist them in some fashion, some way to regain their market share.”

“We’re right there with them; 30 million small businesses.”
