PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - “Not again.”
That was one of the first thoughts that went through Carol Black’s head after she had heard there was another synagogue shooting, this time in California.
Black has lost her brother Richard Gottfried exactly six months ago to the day of the shooting at the Chabad of Poway synagogue in Poway, California. The shooting left one dead and wounded at least three including the synagogue’s rabbi.
Black says it’s been a tough six months but Saturday was especially sad because she knew more people would experience what she is going through first-hand.
“More people have to experience this pain and suffering and just wondering what’s wrong with people in the world today, why is there so much hate,?” asked Black. “I just don’t understand it.”
Black says she doesn’t have the answers but knows the Tree of Life community and Pittsburgh will be there for the people of Poway.
“We have a six month head start on what they’re going to now be experiencing,” said Black. “My heart aches for them.”
Black knows her life is never going to be the same again but she is thankful for the relationships and bonds she has formed with the other families who lost loved ones during the Tree of Life shooting and she hopes the same for the people of Poway.
“I hope for the people in California, that they are going to have that because I think it is going to help them as well.”
