Coronavirus testing in Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Pennsylvania Department of Health has announced 467 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, 57 more compared to Wednesday.

These new cases bring the total to 77,313 across the state of Pennsylvania.


There continues to be cases in all 67 counties.

There have also been 51 new deaths, three more compared to Wednesday, bringing the statewide total to 6,113.

Of those deaths, 4,215 of occurred in residents of nursing or personal care homes.

16,357 cases of COVID-19 are being reported in residents of nursing and long term care homes with 2,871 in employees.

5,888 of the total positive cases have been seen in healthcare workers.

To date, there have been 476,439 negative tests in Pennsylvania.

But most of the deaths and hospitalizations have occurred in the 65 and older age group.

The age breakdown:

  • Nearly 1% are ages 0-4;
  • Nearly 1% are ages 5-12;
  • Nearly 2% are ages 13-18;
  • 6% are ages 19-24; 
  • Nearly 37% are ages 25-49; 
  • 25% are ages 50-64; and
  • 28% are ages 65 or older.

"Wearing a mask, continuing to maintain social distancing, and washing your hands frequently are all steps we can take to help protect others, including our most vulnerable Pennsylvanians, our essential workers and our healthcare system," Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said. 

The Pennsylvania Department of Health has a digital map on their website to track the locations and densities of the positives as they are reported across the state.
