Coronavirus testing at PA's State Lab

HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Pennsylvania Department of Health has announced 511 new cases of COVID-19 in the state in its Sunday, May 31 update.These new cases bring the total to 71,926 across the state of Pennsylvania, jumping up from 71,415 on Saturday.There continues to be cases in all 67 counties.There have also been 18 new deaths; the statewide total is now 5,555.5,455 of the total positive cases have been seen in healthcare workers.There are 15,486 cases that have been tested for in nursing homes and personal care residents; 2,659 cases are within the nursing home and personal care employees. To date, there have been 383,111 negative tests in Pennsylvania.The 25-49 range has been hit the hardest with the number of positive cases; the demographic has almost 37% of the confirmed cases.But most of the deaths and hospitalizations have occurred in the 65 and older age group."As Pennsylvania continues to move forward in the process to reopen, we need to remember that the threat from COVID-19 has not gone away. "As counties move into the yellow and green phases, we must take personal responsibility to protect others. Wearing a mask, continuing to maintain social distancing, and washing your hands frequently are all steps we can take to help protect others, including our most vulnerable Pennsylvanians, our essential workers and our healthcare system," Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said. The Pennsylvania Department of Health has a digital map on their website to track the locations and densities of the positives as they are reported across the state.
