Pennsylvania To Add 2 More 'Fish For Free' Days

2020 PA Fishing License
PA Fish and Boat Commission

DRAVOSBURG, PA (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pennsylvania already offers two "Fish for Free" days per year, but State Representative Bill Kortz has plans to introduce two more.

The new bill will require that the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission add two extra "free" days to the calendar.

"Fish for Free" days allow anyone to fish in a state waterway without possessing a fishing license.

All other policies and regulations are in effect, however.

The "Fish for Free" days have typically been scheduled over the Memorial Day and Fourth of July weekends, but weather often derailed the initial dates.

"That's why I want to expand the Fish for Free program to require the executive director of the commission to declare four such days each year, allowing more opportunities for people to take part," Kortz said.

"Fishing is a great way to spend time outdoors and is a welcome respite during these challenging times, and expanding these opportunities will result in more Pennsylvanians giving fishing a try."
