PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Another stiff rate hike request from the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority.
The Authority is vowing to spend $200 million next year for work at the Aspinwall Treatment Plant, to install new large volume mains, replace more lead lines and rebuild storm water infrastructure.
To do it tells the state PUC it needs a 19 percent rate hike for residential customers in 2021.
The average residential bill would go from $72 to $86 a month for water and sewer.
Commercial customers would pay 29 percent more, industrial 46 percent, hospitals and schools 14 percent.
That’ on top of a 14 percent residential hike last year.
The PUC can be expected to moderate the request after hearing from users and community groups.
