Pittsburgh Water Customers Can Sound Off On Proposed Rate Hikes

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Customers of the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority will get a chance to sound off on rate hike requests for the next two years.

Six public hearings have been scheduled for early July.

The PWSA has requested a 19 percent increase for 2021 that would take the average resident bill to more than $86 a month.

A more than six percent hike is requested for 2022.

The authority is in the midst of a series of yearly increases it says it needs to be replace aging infrastructure including lead pipes.

The hearings will be conducted by telephone July 7, 8 and 9.

Customers can sign up at the PWSA website or the call the state consumer advocates office.
