Port Authority of Pittsburgh Suspends All Services Amid George Floyd Protest Riots

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Port Authority of Pittsburgh has suspended all services for Saturday night as the city has been overrun with rioting and looting during the George Floyd protests.

The Port Authority shared the update on Twitter Saturday evening.

All service is suspended for the evening.

Peaceful protests in the name of George Floyd began early in the afternoon on Saturday, then turned violent by late afternoon when a Pittsburgh Police vehicle as set on fire.

Floyd, a black man, was killed while in custody by a white police officer, Derek Chauvin. Chauvin has since been fired from his job, arrested and charged with 3rd degree murder and manslaughter.

The city was declared "NOT safe" early Saturday evening as looting and rioting took hold downtown.
