PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commision (PATC) has advised drivers that the Turnpike between Allegheny Valley, Exit 48, and Pittsburgh, Exit 57, will be closed over night starting on Saturday Aug. 29 at 11:59 p.m.
The Turnpike will be closed going both directions and will be reopening 5:00 a.m. Aug. 30.
The closure is needed so road crews can remove bridge beams from from Saltsburg Road over the Turnpike at milepost 53.66 in Plum Borough.
Flaggers will be directing traffic across the bridge during the closure.
Eastbound drivers should use the following recommended detour:
Exiting at Allegheny Interchange:
- Freeport Road (1 mile) to
- State Route 910 west (.5 mile) to
- State Route 28 south (12 miles) to
- I-579 south Veterans Bridge (.5 mile) to
- I-376 east (14.2 miles) to Exit 15
- Re-enter I-76 at the Pittsburgh Interchange, Exit 57.
- Follow signs to Harrisburg and east.
Westbound drivers should use the following recommended detour:
Exiting at Pittsburgh Interchange:
- I-376 west (16 miles) to
- I-279 north Ft. Duquesne Bridge, bear right on bridge to
- State Route 28 north (23 miles) to
- Harmarville Exit, State Route 910 east (.1 mile)
- Left on to Freeport Road (.7 mile)
- Re-enter I-76 at the Allegheny Valley Interchange, Exit 48
- Follow signs to Ohio and west
This closing is an early-action project for the total reconstruction project between milepost 53 and 57.
