Penn State's THON Raises Over $11 Million

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Hundreds of Penn State students raised almost $11.7 million dollars for pediatric cancer patients in the annual weekend fundraiser known as Thon.

The donations announced Sunday afternoon at the conclusion of the Dance Marathon raised a total of $11,696,942.38.

It’s the 48th edition of THON and took placed February 21 through 23.

Donations go to Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital.

“THON is a student-run philanthropy committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer. THON's mission is to provide emotional and financial support, spread awareness, and ensure funding for critical research — all in pursuit of a cure. To learn more, visit thon.org,” a statement on Penn State’s website said.

Participants dance for 46 straight hours without sleep or sitting.

Since 1977, THON has raised over $168 million.
