PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A public hearing will be held by the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) on Tuesday, July 30th at 6 p.m. to receive citizen comments regarding the department's settlement agreement with U.S. Steel.

The hearing will be held at the Clairton Municipal Building for the public to enter verbal comments on the agreement. If you wish to speak, you must sign up 24 hours in advance of the hearing by calling 412-578-8103 or emailing aqcomments@alleghenycounty.us.

Each commenter will be allowed three minutes to speak.

The agreement came together at the end of June, and included repairs to the batteries and battery operations to help reduce fugitive and stack emission, commitments to improve transparency, and the community benefit provisions.

One of the community benefit provisions stated that, "US Steel will be paying all fines related to the 2018 order amounting to $2,732,504. Of these fines, 90% ($2,459,253) will go into a community benefit trust for impacted communities while the remaining ten percent ($273,250) will go into the clean air fund."

If you are unable to make the hearing, you can submit a written comment until Wednesday, July 31st.
