A raccoon in Bethel Park has tested positive for rabies.

The Allegheny County Health Department said the animal was reported on Glenrock drive.

There have been 18 animals to test positive so far this year in the county, including eight bats, six raccoons, three cats and a groundhog.

The rabies virus is transmitted through an animal bite or scratch and can be fatal if left untreated. Anyone that has been bitten, scratched or exposed to saliva of an animal should wash the affected area and seek medical attention immediately.

Anyone who sees any odd behavior in animals should contact animal control, police or the Game Commission.
