REAL ID Deadline Pushed Back 1 Year Due To Virus

WASHINGTON (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The deadline to get a REAL ID has been pushed back a year, due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security made the announcement on Thursday.

The new date for REAL ID enforcement will be October 1, 2021.

It was originally scheduled for October 1, 2020.

“Protecting both the health and national security of the American people continues to be the top priority for the President of the United States and the Department of Homeland Security,” Homeland Security posted in a statement.
