Record Rainfall Causes Problems On Halloween

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Record rainfall fell around Pittsburgh on Halloween.

The National Weather Service says nearly two inches fell at Pittsburgh International. It was second wettest October on record.

Flash flooding was reported in many areas: Pittsburgh, Imperial, Coraopolis, Moon, Franklin Park, Penn Hills, Bethel Park, North Fayette and parts of southern Butler County.

Thursday's severe weather did some damage, closed some roads and knocked out power to thousands. As of 9:00 a.m. Duquesne Light had about 2,100 customers without service. 

West Penn Power reports 3,000 outages in Washington and Westmoreland counties and 1,000 in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler and Fayette counties combined.

And It snowed last night! Any snow in the sky counts as a trace according to Weather Service guidelines. It's only snowed 10 times on Halloween since 1890.

The last time it snowed on Halloween in Pittsburgh was 2012. Any snow falling in the sky counts as a trace of snow according to the National Weather Service guidelines. Therefore, it has only snowed 10 different Halloween's in our records (which go back to 1890).
